Set to open its latest bar in Oxford this Saturday (28 October,) restaurant and bar The Alchemist hosted a street theatre takeover in the city centre this Saturday (21 October).

As part of its pre-launch “buzz,” the group sent 14 steampunk-inspired characters down Cornmarket Street and Queen’s Street, to “inject the dark and mysterious guise that The Alchemist is famed for, into its new home.” For sharing their experience on Instagram, locals were then treated to a free drink.

As with its other bars, the 4,600 square foot Oxford venue (located in Westgate shopping centre) will offer a vast all-day menu and drinks selection, comprising dishes such as Japanese ramen, jerk chicken, salads, sandwiches and vegetable skewers.

Managing director Simon Potts said: “We wanted our arrival in Oxford to be impactful and unconventional to inspire locals to imagine things differently, which is part of our brand vision.

“Oxford is a fantastic city full of spirit, intrigue and history - with an unrivalled food and drink scene. It’s enjoying a real renaissance and we can’t wait to be a part of this.”

The new venue follows a £1.5 million investment and will create 75 full and part-time jobs for the area.
