Varying levels of bacteria from faeces has been identified in ice from Costa Coffee, Starbucks and Caffe Nero, the BBC’s Watchdog has found.

The investigation found that seven out of 10 samples of Costa ice were contaminated with bacteria found in faeces. At Starbucks and Caffe Nero, three out of 10 samples tested contained bacteria known as faecal coliforms, the BBC reported.

The BBC also reported that all three coffee chains have now taken action to improve hygiene levels.
