BrewDog’s ‘Beer Geek Awards’ attracts 10,000 entries

The independent Scottish craft brewer, BrewDog’s first ‘Beer Geek Awards’ – crediting the advancement of craft beer from those outside the industry – has received almost 10,000 entries across the seven categories up for grabs.

Open to beer aficionados across Europe whose primary income does not come from the industry, the ceremony will take place on 21 August at BrewDog Clerkenwell, where the winner will be announced and presented the prize trip to San Diego.

Shining light on those contributing towards the development of craft beer, the panel of judges, including BrewDog co-founder James Watt, beer author Pete Brown and drinks writer Claire Dodd, have shortlisted entries down to the top three from each category.

Ray Daniels, founder of the Cicerone Certification and judge for the Beer Geek Awards, said: “The craft beer community has flourished across the UK and Europe over the past ten years and become a force to be reckoned with. Beer drinkers are constantly redefining what great craft beer is through their thirst for new styles and flavours, and they demand the best from their favourite brewers.

“The Beer Geek Awards will be an integral part of recognising the community’s hard work in elevating beer to where it is today. At its best, beer brings people together, and on the 26th July, beer geeks across the UK and Europe will be united in a tasting session that transcends both borders and language barriers.”
