Deliveroo to expand Roobox concept nationwide

Deliveroo is reportedly planning to open 150 stand-alone kitchens by the end of 2017, in a bid to keep up with demand for takeaway orders from local restaurants.

The Sunday Telegraph has claimed to have seen documents that the food delivery firm is in negotiations with property agents to roll-out its Roobox formula nationwide.

A Roobox is a kitchen without a restaurant attached to it and was created to help smaller restaurants expand into delivery without affecting its in-house operations.

Deliveroo currently has three Roobox sites opened, which it plans to increase to 20 by the end of the year, and 150 by the end of 2017.

As well as talking to independents and smaller chains, the newspaper also claims Deliveroo is in talks with Wahaca and Wagamama for the concept.
