The French Fox wins two awards

The Fox Inn & La Table d’Yves, a French restaurant in Thorpe Satchville, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, owned and run by Elisabeth and Yves Ogrodzki, has won two regional awards.

The independent venue was voted Best Gastro Pub/Restaurant and Best European Restaurant at the first Food and Drink Awards 2011 East Midlands. They were also runners-up in the category for Best Service and Customer Care. French-born Elisabeth and Yves and their family, who moved to England from Provence six years ago, specialise in authentic home-made cuisine in the refurbished village pub. In creating his award winning menu, chef Yves draws on his flair and gastronomic experience, including working with Jean-Christophe Novelli in London. The couple were reunited with the Michelin star celebrity chef when he presented them with their awards at a celebration dinner at the Greetham Valley Hotel in Oakham. Yves said: "It's fantastic to win because it comes from our customers ̶ this means as much as a mention in the AA or Michelin guides," said Yves who is committed to using local produce. "We started out with the idea of a French family taking over an English inn, which might have seemed a bit strange, but with passion and hard work we made it a success and helped put the village of Thorpe Satchville on the map." The awards recognise quality food and drink from across the region from Skegness and Sleaford to Peterborough and Stamford with selected finalists competing for top titles. Texts and post from satisfied customers helped winners to gain their awards.
