Jamie Oliver opens second Diner at Gatwick airport

Jamie Oliver has opened his second American-inspired restaurant, Jamie Oliver’s Diner, in Gatwick’s South Terminal – next door to his other restaurant there, Jamie’s Deli.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the menu is inspired by American comfort food and Oliver’s trip to the US in 2009, with the restaurant’s website claiming that “(Oliver) wanted to look past the junk food and super-sized portions that people typically associate with American food, and bring the incredible flavours we know and love to the streets of London, with nutrition kept in check and some classic Jamie twists.”

The menu claims to focus on choice and balance – with horn and halo symbols indicating healthy and unhealthy options - and includes items such as a full English breakfast, prawn and avocado salad, burgers and barbequed meats, as well as a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. All soft drinks also state whether they contain added sugar, and have a sugar tax charge if so – the money of which goes directly to the Children’s Health Fund to support children’s food education in the UK.

This is the second Jamie Oliver’s Diner to open after the success of its first Shaftesbury Avenue venue, which launched in 2013 and was “designed to be a relaxed, vibrant space that would stick around for just a year.”

The website added: “Now it’s evolved into something bigger and better still with the launch of Jamie Oliver’s Diner in Gatwick’s South Terminal. A hub for excited travellers to come and tuck into some feel-good food before their flight.”
