New World Trading Company (NWC), founder of Birmingham’s The Botanist, has confirmed that it will open its second site in the city this August, The Canal House.

Taking the place of the former James Brindley pub, the sixth and latest brand to join the NWC portfolio will centre around the late famous engineer’s life, work and spirit - from the décor to experimental cocktail menu.

Keeping with NWC’s other concept bar and restaurants, including The Oast House (Manchester) and The Club House (Liverpool), The Canal will serve over 60 unique world ales, a selection of cocktails as well as a food menu focusing around rotisserie meats and a deli section.

The Canal’s general manager, Liam Carney said: “Following the success of The Botanist, we’re really excited to launch The Canal House…Birmingham is a great city with lots of ambition and passion…

“Not only will this new venue have two floors and an outdoor seating area, but there will also be a secret gin distillery that will sit at the back of the first floor bar, but we can’t talk about that of course!”

The Canal opens on 14th August and has already created 80 new jobs for Birmingham’s growing food and drink scene, including front of house, kitchen and bar staff.
