PAUL UK announces 2016 growth

PAUL UK, the French bakery and café brand has announced an increase in both turnover and revenue in its 2016 results.

The group, which has 36 sites across the country, saw its turnover go up 12.3% to £32.3m and its revenue go up 3% for the year ended 31 December 2016.

Despite the strong results from last year and saying the company’s two new bakeries in Notting Hill Gate and Earl’s court were ‘trading well’, chief executive Jean-Michel Orieux warned of challenges ahead.

Orieux said: “The fall in the value of sterling, business rate increases and the absorption of the national living wage provide challenging trading conditions.

“Through the continued refurbishment of our stores, development of our product range and central bakery plus commitment to our team and processes, we are confident PAUL will continue to engage with our customers and perform well.”

Established in France in 1889, PAUL opened its first UK bakery in 2000 and recently refurbished 11 of its stores, with five more sites ‘earmarked’ for future revamp.
