Operating 27 service stations across the UK, Welcome Break has reported a “very strong” Christmas trading period with like-for-like sales up 14%.

Managing stations across England, Scotland and Wales, brands include Starbucks, Burger King and Pizza Express, and saw the company process over 845,000 transactions between 26 December and 2 January.

Rod McKie, chief executive officer, said: “Coffee sales were particularly strong across our Starbucks stores, both in the service stations and drive-thru.

“We were also very pleased with the initial success of the company’s first PizzaExpress restaurant at Oxford Services, which opened in early December.

“Yet again, Christmas trading proved to be extremely strong. Welcome Break and the motorway service industry in general has shown itself to be very resilient.

“Despite fears around Brexit and the impact of snow, we still envisage our profits being up 7.5% at year end (January 2018)”.

Welcome Break is set for further expansion throughout 2018, announcing plans to open five more Starbucks drive-thrus and more Pizza Express restaurants.
